Safety at the Beach

Safety and security on the beach and in the water.

A day at the beach is a fun experience for the whole family, but there are a few rules that we would ask you and your family to follow:

1. Only swim parallel with the shore
2. In harbours, near jetties, breakwaters and fishing-net stakes - or in strong currents, in marshes, bogs, lakes, ponds and gravel pits, the water is always very cold just below the surface.
3. Anywhere overgrown with weeds.
4. All places where bathing is not permitted.
5. Never go into water deeper than your waist
6. Children (and adults) must never swim alone

Be careful with air-mattresses and inflatable water toys. They drift to sea easily. Secure them (tie to something) at shore. If you lose a larger toy or an air-mattress please call the police so that no unnecessary rescue operation is launched.

In case of emergency:
If a bathing accident or other emergency situations occur please call rescue 112.
Start by telling what has happened and where you are.
Stay by the phone until your message has been received and understood.
Please note that your call doesn’t necessarily go to the nearest call-centre if you use a cell phone to call 112. Therefore it’s very important to be able to describe exactly where the accident has taken place.

Show regard on the beach

Please don’t disturb other people on the beach by for instance noise from your radio. Pay attention when you fly your kite and please don’t leave garbage behind.

Dogs must be kept on a leash on the beach from April 1st. till September 30th. But you can take your dog swimming without the leash unless you find signs saying the contrary.
From October 1st till March 30th you can let your dog run free if you can control it.
